The coloured community lost one of its most important historians today with the passing of Prof. Henry \u201cJatti\u201d Bredekamp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cape Forum honours him as someone who, through his work at the University of the Western Cape and Iziko museums, ensured that the history of the country\u2019s indigenous people gained prominence. He was especially an expert on the Khoisan and Griquas, as well as on the Moravian mission station in Genadendal where he was born.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prof. Jatti\u2019s death should be a wake-up call to coloured communities that his work should be continued by a new generation of researchers and historians in these communities where not everyone always has sufficient knowledge about their heritage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
