The civil rights organisation Cape Forum embarked on an exciting green project last week (8 November) in collaboration with the Cape Forum partner Green for Life, the organisation\u2019s chief executive officer, Jan Odendaal, and the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment. Sixty fruit trees were planted as part of this project at Carpe Diem, a school for physical, learning and intellectually impaired learners, in George.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The aim of this green project is to help strengthen Carpe Diem\u2019s \u200b\u200bexisting vegetable garden programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Bernard Pieters, manager of community activation at Cape Forum, Carpe Diem\u2019s \u200b\u200bprincipal, Elzeth Grobler, and her team are already doing incredible work at this school. \u201cWe hope that these 60 fruit trees, which include apple, peach and lemon trees, will help their vegetable garden project go from strength to strength,\u201d he explains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cape Forum focuses, through various projects, on the well-being of schools and learners. \u201cThe secret to quality education, good values, discipline and skills that children must learn at school lies in the leadership of a school. It is therefore a privilege for us to help a school that is already doing so well to take the next step towards excellence,\u201d says Pieters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt was wonderful to see with what passion and zeal the children participated in the project. Cape Forum will continue to support schools, where practically possible, in projects that promote independence from the state,\u201d says Pieters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
