Gang-related crime, a serious issue in the Western Cape, involves criminal activities committed by organised groups, often with a focus on violence, drug trafficking, and extortion, posing a significant threat to public safety and security.

Cape Forum has approached the Constitutional Court to get clarity on Section 127(2)(f) of the Constitution which gives a premier the power and responsibility to be able to hold referendums in their province “in accordance with national legislation”. Cape Forum is specifically calling on the Western Cape Premier to hold a referendum regarding the devolution of policing powers to the Western Cape Government.
